Use case: an ordinary shop

Run your whole shop on it.

Most of what you sell may be plain stock. A shirt in three sizes. A jar of honey. Specify sells those too. Products, stock, cart, checkout, payment and delivery are all in it.

Why this page exists

Most of our pages talk about made-to-order work. That can make Specify look like an add-on.

It is not. It is the shop itself. A product with no options is the plain case.

So here is what a plain catalogue gets. And here is what it does not get yet.

What Specify does for it today

Each of these is in the platform now.

  • Products and groups you set up

You add products and sort them into groups in your admin. Each one has a price, pictures and text.

  • Sizes and colours

A product can come in sizes, colours or any choice you name. Each one has its own code, stock and pictures. It can have its own price.

  • Stock that counts down

You can count stock. A sale takes it off, and the last one sells once. At zero you stop selling or take back-orders. The shop says when few are left. You get an email when stock runs low.

  • Pages a search engine can read

Each product and group has its own page. The page arrives whole, so a search engine can read it. Buyers can search and sort by price.

  • A cart and a checkout

Buyers put things in a cart and check out with an email and an address. No account is needed.

  • Payment into your own account

Buyers pay online through Stripe. The money goes to your own Stripe account. If you cancel a paid order, the buyer is paid back.

  • Shipping and delivery times

You set one shipping rate, and it can be free above an amount you choose. You say how long delivery takes. The shop tells buyers before they pay.

  • Tax on every order

You set your tax once for the store. Each order keeps the tax it was sold with.

  • Order emails in your words

Buyers get an email when they order, when it ships and if it is cancelled. You can change the words.

  • Buyers who come back

A buyer can sign in with a code sent by email and see their orders. They can report a problem with an order. You decide what to do.

  • English, Danish and Swedish

The shop's buttons and messages come in English, Danish and Swedish. Your own product text stays as you wrote it.

  • Bring your products with you

We can move your products from a Shopify or WooCommerce file. Or from your old site. You check them before they go live.

What it does not do yet

A shop that sells plain stock may expect the things below. Specify does not have them today.

  • Return labels and credit notes. Stock does not go back up when an item is returned. A shipped order is paid back only when the buyer reports a problem.
  • Shipping priced by weight or by carrier. Each market you sell to has one flat rate.
  • Signing in at checkout. A buyer cannot keep an address or buy again in one click.
  • Stock in more than one place, or orders to your own suppliers.
  • Moving your shop on your own. Customers, past orders and a link to your old shop do not come across.
  • Add-ons built by other companies.

Try it with a few of your own products

Set up a few products, with sizes and stock. Then buy one the way a buyer would.

To sign up, we ask for your work email and your company name.
